About Us
Who We Are
NMMS is an independent, Catholic middle school (grades 5-8) that provides a quality, scholarship-supported education to underserved girls and boys of all faiths. Standing arm-in-arm with our families, NativityMiguel makes a 12-year commitment to our students, starting in middle school and continuing through high school and college. Drawing from four pillars – courage, compassion, community, and contemplation – a NativityMiguel education promotes academic, spiritual, social-emotional, and physical growth, so that our students are inspired to become women and men for others.
All of the pillars in our mission statement are grounded in the animating values and/or charism of four co-sponsoring religious orders:
- Courage – Daughters of the Heart of Mary
- Compassion- Sisters of Mercy
- Community – Christian Brothers
- Contemplation – Jesuits
In partnership with our families, we deliver a uniquely effective education that includes an extended school day and school year, dedicated and caring teachers, personal mentoring and continuing support through high school graduation.
Since September 2004, the NativityMiguel Middle School of Buffalo has provided middle school students the opportunity to break the cycle of poverty through education. Many students had failed at school and were ready to give up. Today, students at our St. Monica Division for young women and St. Augustine Division for young men embrace the programs they need to prepare for success in high school and beyond. Our graduates now attend many of the area’s top public and private high schools and are continuing on to college.
